California Exposed Firearms Permit This is a 14-hour training course that teaches security officers information from the state manual on how to carry a firearm and how to fire a firearm. Specific areas that are covered in the class include moral and legal aspects, firearms fundamentals, and firearm nomenclature. Bay Area Training Academy is required to qualify you—on the range with 50 rounds of ammunition per caliber that you want to qualify for—so that you can carry that desired caliber of firearm while you're working as a security officer. You must provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport, permanent resident alien card, DD Form 214, or military ID card. You're also required to pass a written examination and qualify on the range with a passing range score.
